I really hope Pentaho makes a compelling product. But they have a long road ahead. They’ve incorporated projects that were developed independently, use different methods for accessing data and do not share the same quality in the code base. The programs will change and users that build to one version will find their tools broken upon the next version release. That’s part of the practical downside of open-source. Until the product has matured, it will be a moving target.

Hamburg is in a good location for German logistics and in an especially import/export driven region. I find it fascinating that a company sees opportunity by looking at global logistics volumes. It makes the world seem so much smaller. Click here

Business Objects is producing video training as podcasts. It’s sooooo easy to produce podcasts and even easier to make product demos in general. Eventually any vendor worth talking to will open their product to demos and evaluations.

A new version of Democracy TV platform is out. Democracy integrates some basic technologies to create an intuitive, exciting media platform. Channels are simply published RSS feeds, typically with links to Torrent files of a broad array of media formats. Users of Democracy distribute the media content to other users. This means that anyone can build a channel without the need for large servers to host media and coordinate content delivery.

But you don’t need to understand any of this to get the benefit — an easy-to-use, flexible, adaptive, collaborative and ingeniously democratic entertainment center.
